Trip to Warangal (Nov 2010).

Traveling through history is really interesting. This time I selected Warangal, the capital of Kakatiya Dynasti. They ruled most part of what is now in Andrapradesh, from 1083 CE to 1323 CE. During the period of Ganapathi deva (1199-1261), the fort of warangal was constructed.

We started the journey at 9.00 am from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station [MGBS] - Hyderabad, earlier known as Imlibun Bus Station. We planed to go to Warangal first, then to Hanmakonda. But, there are a few  buses to Warangal, but lot of buses to Hanmakonda. Kazhipet, Warangal and Hanmakonda are like corners of triangle. Around 1pm we reached Hanmakonda. The famous 1000 pillar Temple is in a walkable distance. Comparing to Ramappa Temple, this is not thatmuch attractive. We started to the next place, Bhadrakali Temple by an auto. Here the only the shrin is from the history, all otheres are destroyed for  new constructions. I remembered the state of Chola temples at Kumbhakonam, the same way with new paintings and concrete they destroyed them.

Around 5pm we reached Warangal. Warangal is 7km away from Hanmakonda. We hired an auto  to Warangal Fort. Comparing to previous monuments, this is well maintained. At 7pm we went to our loadge. Plenty of medium range loadges are available here. But hotels.... we had supper from Warangal Railway station. Our next location is the famous Ramappa Temple. We had planed to visit Golconda and Ramappa Temple many times. Most of the time we postponed the journey due to Telangana issue.

Ramappa Temple, constructed in the architectural style of South India. The star shaped basement resembles the monuments of Hoysala Dynasti. This temple situates in a remote tiny village, Palampet. There is no direct bus from warangal or Hanmakonda to  Palampet. The main town near Palampet is Mulugu. At 7.30am we reached Mulugu Road-Warangal. The bus came at 8 am. The bus reached Mulugu around 10 am. This is very small town. There is no hotels and lodges  There was an official sitting in the enquiry counter. He has no idea when the bus to Palampet comes.   At last we got a share auto to palempet. There is  APTDC hotel near the lake.

In our return, hired an auto up to Mulugu.
